The art of painting twins: Profile of Terri Rea - Arlington art

Terri Rea is an active painter and member of the Falls Church Arts community whose artist focus is about painting twins. Being a twin surely provides a foundation for painting them as it produces personal depth of insight.

Terri Rea shared that she immigrated to America during WWII. She was born in Leeds, and her family moved to London. Apparently her family selected a great alternative home as they moved to Beverly Hills, California. Terri pretty much became a Californian and emblazoned her credentials having graduated from the University of California at Berkeley. She proudly boasts her affinity with the "free speech movement" at Berkeley. (It never ended Terri.)

So, this hippy artist from California zeroed in on painting twins, yet there is so much more to painting than the subject alone. Terri applies abstract treatment as if it were a filter to discover the essentials about subjects and their likeness and dissimilarities.

She appears to be vivacious and alive with energy and personality that is expressed without hesitation in producing impressions that are clean and transparent. When an artist has a clear view and understanding about what they intend to accomplish, there is no confusion in appreciating the outcomes. When artists tend to their knitting, so to speak, the resulting collection provides a spectrum of insight that may become of historical note. The quality of her painting surely points to work that is collectable.

There are many artists in Falls Church whose work deserves art museum space in the community collection, and hers is among them.

Last May, Priscilla Frank from the Huffington Post reported about an exhibition of work produced by identical twins.

Ryan and Trevor Oakes are identical twins who, together, explore the logic of art, the beauty of mathematics and the spaces where these two arenas of knowledge become inextricably intertwined. The Oakes brothers' artwork ranges from algorithmic watercolors to explosive pipe cleaner sculptures, each gorgeous experiment navigating a new relationship between sight, space and the mysteries of perception.

An exhibition showcasing the twins' multidisciplinary talents is now on view at the National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath) in New York. Titled "Compounding Visions: The Art of Ryan and Trevor Oakes," the show follows the journey of two individuals whose mutual curiosity sparked a lifetime of beautiful investigations."

You can see Terri Rea's work at Falls Church Arts in the 'All Members Show'.
